A day in life of Carlos Barillas at UC DAvis
Since we arrived to UC Davis everyone has been very friendly and willing to help and answer all our questions. I am personally impress with the experience of the coaches that Dan Hawkins put together.
Every day we start at 7:30 with a team meeting, players and coaches goes through the daily schedule and general plan for installation, adjustments and scouting. After that they go to positions meetings.
Since we are four coaches from DIF, we go 2 for defense and 2 for offense to try to increase our chances of learning. After that period, the players have 1 hour go get ready for practice that starts at 10:00, but given the level of competition and the dedication that is expected, almost all the players arrived 30 to 15 minutes before practice for EDD’s. During practice all 100 players and 14 coaches get t work full speed all the time and in perfect coordination.
As a football person, it is impressive to watch the detailed approach that everyone has at this level as well as the energy and effort.
After practice we have around one hour for lunch and then coaches meeting for video review, more game planning, recruiting and already scouting for next weeks game. Around 18:00, some coaches have more meetings in case that there is not practice or walk through on a night session. Every day we finish around 20:00, some times later, depending on how much the staff stays to work in the campus.
Honestly, I thought this was going to be a nice time in warm California with some football learning, and I was very wrong about that. It has been a very intense football experience with some of the most knowledgeable people I have met in my life.
If we can bring home some of the dedication that we have experience at UC Davis, I have no doubts that Djurgården will become a very solid and successful football program.
